Q: I don't see an address for the Saturday house parties. Should I worry? A: The dances on Friday and Sunday are public events, the ones on Saturday are not. The guest list is limited to people who have signed up for at least one class. Whether you registered on the website or in person on Friday night, we will both send you an e-mail with directions and hand you a booklet with places to eat, schedule, directions, etc. Q: What will the DJ music be like? A: Friday night during band breaks, Sean Dockery will DJ a Cell Space tango mix in the Main Ballroom. Mihai and Jesse Miner will DJ blues in the Mezzanine. The Friday late night will be mainly blues with Jesse, and Conjunto Berretín will play one predominantly blues set. The Saturday house parties will be an even split of blues and Cell Space tango mix, MC'ed by Dylan McCann (who runs a monthly blues/swing/tango fusion dance in Portland). Homer and Mihai will help out during the evening dance, Muliono and Sue Kearney during the late night. If we have an outdoor dance on Sunday, it will be an eclectic mix of both dances. The alternative is holding a practica at One Taste, where people can hopefully share and try out some of the things they learned. The Sunday Trio Garufa milonga is all about tango; the DJ will play a more traditional mix. If there is interest in blues, we can get it started in a small back room, but tango is clearly the focus of the evening, with a history lesson and show. Q: Can I buy individual classes ahead of time? A: We recommend buying at least a three-class pass, which you can do for $36 either online or in person. This is a unique workshop and we feel that you would be missing out by taking only tango or only blues classes. There is, however, a "Friday Pass" available for the two classes plus evening dance and late night. You can buy individual classes drop-in only for $15 each. |
